Millett DMS1 1-4×24 Riflescope Review

The Millett DMS1 1-4×24 Riflescope is an inexpensive alternative to higher priced three gun scopes. It provides an alternative to a red dot and a scope, combining the best features of both. The reticle has an 18 MoA red donut with a 1 MoA dot in the center to enable rapid placement on large targets up close, but cranked up to 4X allows precision shooting out to 500 yards and more.

This scope is not expensive and there is an element of “you get what you pay for” to be accepted in this purchase. Some users have complained of inadequate eye-relief/critical head placement with the DMS-1 whilst others have had the reticle rotate 20 to 30 degrees after use with heavy recoiling calibers/weapons. Most seem broadly or well satisfied, taking the price point into consideration.

Bushnell TRS25 Red Dot Sight Review

Bushnell TRS25 Red Dot Sight

Bushnell TRS25 Red Dot Sight

Resembling the Aimpoint T-1 and H-1 red dot sights, the new Bushnell TRS25 Red Dot Sight provides many of the former’s qualities at a fraction of the price. The TRS25 provides fast and accurate sighting in a small, rugged package that is fogproof, waterproof and shockproof. Just like the Aimpoint, the Bushnell features an ultra strong aluminum body with integral Weaver/Picatinny mount and a large, easily grasped adjuster knob to set brightness. There are eleven setting to cope with a wide variety of brightness conditions.

Bushnell’s patented Amber-Bright™ multi-coated optics provide a crystal clear sight picture. Eye relief is unlimited making fore and aft head position irrelevant. This sight is equally at home on a rifle, shotgun or handgun. The TRS25 is essentially parallax free beyond 25 meters making it hold insensitive.

The downside of this sight is battery life of “only” 3,000 hours vs 50,000 for the Aimpoint from its lithium battery. For most uses this is irrelevant unless you happen to leave the unit switched on when you return it to your gunsafe.

Spec.:

  • Aluminum body, anodized, black anodized finish. 25mm (1″) dia. objective lens. Length 2½” (6.4cm). Weights 4 oz. (113g).
  • Uses 1 x CR-2032 battery.
  • Lens covers included.

Burris AR-PEPR mount review

Burris AR-PEPR

The Burris AR-PEPR mount (Proper Eye Position Ready) is a rugged scope mount for AR series and other flat top rifles and carbines. The PEPR AR mount comes in non quick detach (PEPR) and quick detach (AR-PEPR-QD) versions. The basic PEPR fastens to the mount via a clamp secured by two hex-headed cross-bolts. The PEPR-QD mount uses two quick detach throw levers.

Burris AR-PEPR-QD AR mount

Perfect return to zero is claimed by the manufacturer. The PEPR AR mounts put the scope two inches further forward than would be the case with conventional rings. This is ideal where you want to fit a magnifier or rear mounted NV and overcomes eye-relief problems caused by the short stock configurations found on some ARs. Machined from an aluminum billet, the PEPRs feature six bolts per top ring for firm clamping of the optic. All surfaces are rounded or radiused to avoid snagging. Picatinny rails machined into the tops of the clamping rings enable the fitting of a small red dot sight as a back-up and a Burris FastFire can be supplied for this purpose. Both PEPR mounts are 5.3″ (13.5cm) long, 1.6″ (4.1cm) wide and 2.4″ (6.1cm) in overall height. They are available to suit 1″ or 30mm versions.

Burris TAC-30 Review

Burris TAC-30 1-4x24 AR scope

Burris TAC-30 1-4x24 AR scope

The Burris TAC-30 is an immensely strong 1-4×24 30mm tube scope intended for competition and tactical use. The AR scope is purged and filled with laboratory grade nitrogen which is kept in (and water kept out) by Burris’ patented Quadra seal. Lenses are multicoated and parralax is virtually eliminated at 100 yards. Adjustments are utterly repeatable and use audible clicks. The mechanism is ‘steel on steel’ and has audible clicks. This model features low profile ‘hunter’ turrets so as not to snag or be inadvertently moved in competition or operations. The patented CQ reticle allows rapid aiming with precision out to 500 yards. The use of yards seems a bit strange but is common to all Burris products. The reticle is illuminated by a CR2032 battery which can last up to 5 years – an automatic sensor turns the illumination off when not required.

Such is Burris confidence in the TAC-30 that they have given it a ‘Forever’ guarantee to its original purchaser. 0.5″ clicks give the scope 130″ of adjustment at 100 yards. The zoom features double spring tension and an elarged ball joint to ensure ruggedness. HiLume™ multi-coating on every lens surface ensures a bright, clear and high-resolution sight picture. The TAC-30 has an eye relief of 3.5-4″, is 11.3″ long and weighs 17 ounces. The Burris tactical TAC-30 is also available with Burris AR-PEPR or AR-PEPR QD mounts and the FastFire red dot sight in a piggy-backed configuration. The AR-PEPR mount offers a full 2″ of reach forward.

Burris AR-332 Review

Burris AR-332 prism sight

Burris AR-332 prism sight

The Burris AR-332 prism sight is a low cost competitor to the Trijicon ACOG series of sights. It is constructed from a 40mm aluminum tube and comes with mounts for both AR carry handles and Picatinny rails. The carry handle option allows use of the rifle’s iron sights without dismounting the sight. The 3x AR332 red dot sight comes with Burris’ Ballistic/CQ™ illuminated reticle which gives aim points from 100 to 500 yards. This is a bit strange as the military standardised on metres back in the 1920s. The reticle can be set to glow in red or green or, when turned off, gives the same picture in black – a really useful feature if your batteries run out or the electronics die. There are five brightness settings and battery life is 200 hours at a high setting and 500 at low. The AR-332 uses one CR2032 battery. Optics of this Burris AR sight are fully coated to minimize glare and the finish is hardcoat anodized. Some nice features include a sunshade, adjuster caps fitted with retaining wires and no less than three Picatinny rails to allow the fitting of a red dot sight or other accessories. The sight is 5.29″ long and has 2.5″ eye relief. This Burris AR scope weighs 14.2 ounces without the sunshade or Butler Creek style caps that are included. Adjustments are a rather odd 0.4 MoA with 60 MoA of total adjustment available. Focus, unfortunately, is underneath the rear flip up. Field of view of the Burris AR-332 is 32ft at 100 yards. This sight makes a really good, much less expensive alternative to the Trijicon ACOG for those on a budget.
