Burris AR536 Prism Sight Review

Burris AR536 Prism Sight

Burris AR536 Prism Sight

The Burris AR536 Prism Sight is the big brother of their AR332 multi-purpose tactical prism scope. It substitutes 5x magnification for the 3 x of the AR332 and ups the objective lens diameter to 36mm. The sight trades off speed of target acquisition for range, but this need not be a problem as you can easily mount a small red-dot sight on the AR536’s top Picatinny rail. Additional accessory rails are mounted on the sides and all are removable if you want to reduce weight.

The Ballistic/CQ™ illuminated reticle is designed for low light use and features bracketed cross hairs subtending 18 inches at 100 yards and additional dots for 500-600 yards. and is still visible even if the battery runs out. These dots are larger and wider spaced than on the AR332 which is good news for those of us with old, tired eyes. The adjustments are .33 of an inch at 100 yards which is a bit strange but is not a problem. As on an ACOG the adjuster caps are wired on so you won’t lose them. A control knob gives five brightness settings in either red or green – the battery life is only in the hundreds of hours. Eye relief is around 2.5″.

The sight’s body is machined from aluminum and hardcoat anodized to protect against scuffs and scratches. Again like the Trijicon ACOG the mount adapts to both MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rails and AR/M16 carry handles. The built in mount is tall enough not to require a riser on flat-top ARs.
